Rule 01

Competition Format

Founded in 2015 by Sindy Monson, Ballet Grand Prix was created to support and celebrate young dancers in Scotland. Today, the competition welcomes talented dancers from across the globe, providing a platform where artistry, education, and performance come together.

Our mission is simple: to create an inspiring, educational and enjoyable experience that supports each dancer's development through valuable stage experience and a growing network of supporters offering prizes, bursaries and training opportunities.

🩰 Semi-Final — Judged Masterclass

Dancers take part in a professionally judged ballet masterclass, assessed on technique, musicality, artistry, potential and work ethic. The top 20 dancers per category advance to the Final.
Locations: London (The Place) & Glasgow (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) · Entry Fee: £45

✨ Final — Solo Performance

Finalists perform a Classical and Contemporary solo before an expert judging panel. All finalists take part in the Grand Défilé at the Awards Ceremony.
Location: Dundee, Scotland · Entry Fee: £80

Final marking: Classical solo 40% · Contemporary solo 40% · Semi-final masterclass 20%. The Grand Défilé is not judged.

Rule 02

Categories

BGP may change age cut-offs for different categories to meet entry number requirements. Dancers who have held a professional contract may not compete.

Pre-Junior · Born 2016–2018

Semi-Finals: 60-minute masterclass. Finals: one non-repertoire classical solo (original choreography) + one contemporary solo.

Junior · Born 2014–2015

Semi-Finals: 75-minute masterclass. Finals: Classical solo (approved repertoire) + contemporary solo.

Mid · Born 2012–2013

Semi-Finals: 90-minute masterclass. Finals: Classical solo (approved repertoire) + contemporary solo. Pointe required for classical.

Senior · Born 2008–2011

Semi-Finals: 90-minute masterclass. Finals: Classical solo (approved repertoire) + contemporary solo. Pointe required for classical.

For all categories, acrobatics is permitted but should not dominate. No more than 2 acrobatic elements per contemporary solo — marks will be deducted if exceeded. Choreographers are strongly encouraged to ensure tricks do not distract from the qualities required for the genre.
